We’ve solved the key roadblocks to the industrial use of cell-free metabolic engineering. We're hitting the ground running with a reaction comprising nearly 70 enzymes. 

Why cell-free? Basically because we don't want to waste carbon flux. We direct the power of enzymes toward a single, well-specified goal instead of taking a detour into growing an entire organism first.
